While you need to consider your strengths and weaknesses when applying for a job, employers are looking out for more than skills and experience. You need to have more than a good CV to impress employers, as companies want to know if you’ll be a good fit for their organisation.

Employers are keen for the right candidate to have a personality that helps them fit in well and work with others. Therefore, if you are applying for jobs, consider the following characteristics, and see if you can show these elements of your personality.

Curiosity

Showing a willingness to learn and develop new skills is a fantastic trait to have. While employers want to find candidates who can do certain roles from the start, they also want to train and develop new candidates.

If you can show you have a curious personality and you are willing to learn new skills and working practices, you will enhance your chances of finding a job.

Integrity

The right candidate for the role is someone who can be relied on to do the right thing. When you deal with the public or other team members, you’ll often have to make tough decisions. If you showcase your personal nature as one that has integrity and knows the difference between right and wrong, you’ll increase your chances of impressing employers.

Likeability

Employers aren’t necessarily looking to hire someone to become every employee’s new best friend, but it is important to find someone who can get on with other people. If you are a likable person, there is a chance you will make a positive impression at the interview.

Whether your position faces the customer, clients or other professionals, you want to be friendly and make people feel as though they will get on with you.

Competence

No one expects you to get everything right straight away, but you should be able to manage certain tasks without too much difficulty. You will need to show you are competent, and capable of managing certain tasks and key roles.

Courage

Courage is important, but it isn’t just about being brave in dangerous situations. Courage is often about making the right decision and sticking to your processes. If you show consistency and courage, you’ll make the best impression on potential employers.

You may already have these attributes, but you aren’t sure how to bring them to the fore during the interview process. You may have these attributes but not be aware that you have them. If you are looking for guidance and support in presenting yourself in the best manner, you’ll find we can help. At GSS, we are pleased to say we have helped many candidates put themselves forward in the best manner, and we can do the same for you.
